Today is my second official serving shift at the restaurant, and I’m not quite prepared, so this blog journal is going to be short and sweet. I’m still pretty nervous about serving. My main job is to sell craft cocktails and I’m still not very well versed with spirits and classic cocktails, but I’m getting more familiar each shift! I’ve done some studying outside of work, but I need to be better about that….

Last night, I went to a show in Highland Park. KCRW was presenting the show and I’ve wanted to attend more of their events. Benny Sings headlined and though I’d never heard his music, I really enjoyed his set. I also ran into a fellow musician from a show I attended a few weeks back at the Bootleg. He had performed his original material that night and I really enjoyed it. After his set that night at the Bootleg, we got to talking and I hoped we’d run into each other again. It was fun to run into him by chance, and we exchanged contact info before the end of the show. Small town I guess!

Today, I worked on my next single “After All'“. A few days ago, a friend and I took it apart and rearranged the entire song. After two years, I was able to update the lyrics (they weren’t very good), and also bring the song to a place where I feel excited and confident to release it. I hit the studio March 12, and I hope to have a really clear vision for it by then. Here are the new lyrics, which are still subject to change:

after all

i’ve seen

a side of you

when you lose

you’re strong

after all

we built

a home for three

right between

the trees

where redwood

meets dry creek

in february

come a little bit closer

rest your head on my shoulder

i don’t want to go it alone

hold me a little longer

show me that we’re stronger

i don’t want to go it alone

after all

we’re here

we found a peace

amid the grief

and pain

where redwood

meets dry creek

in february

come a little bit closer

rest your head on my shoulder

i don’t want to go it alone

hold me a little longer

show me that we’re stronger

i don’t want to go it alone

when i was young

i told myself

i wouldn’t let you go

if i found

can’t believe

i finally found you

come a little bit closer

rest your head on my shoulder

i don’t want to go it alone

hold me a little longer

show me that we’re stronger

i don’t want to go it alone

More on the meaning and origin of the song next time!
